ACARA Solutions and our client in Manassas, VA have a contract-to-direct hire position available

Advanced Computer Engineer

Due to the nature of the work our client does, US citizenship is required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, select, and configure hardware components for SWFT systems.

  • Establish and maintain communication with vendors to acquire hardware and support technical inquiries.

  • Perform comprehensive hardware testing, benchmarking, and validation in lab environments.

  • Build, assemble, and configure systems, identifying and resolving hardware and integration issues.

  • Conduct problem-solving for performance and reliability issues in both hardware and software interactions.

  • Execute lab experiments, record results, and report findings to engineering management.

  • Contribute to SWFT-focused initiatives by integrating hardware and software solutions.

  • Support internal documentation, including test procedures, design specifications, and performance reports.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency in Linux/RedHat/AGL environments.

  • Experience with scripting in Bash and Python for automation and testing.

  • Hands-on experience using benchmarking tools such as PassMark or GeekBench.

  • Proven ability to build, configure, test, and troubleshoot hardware systems.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.

  • Effective communication skills to interact with vendors, team members, and management.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a lab and office environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in hardware evaluation and lab testing for high-performance computing or embedded systems.

  • Familiarity with SWFT hardware/software integration projects.

  • Experience in aerospace or defense environments.

Work Environment:

  • On-site at Manassas, VA and Lockheed Martin facilities as required.

  • Hands-on lab work with hardware assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.

  • Collaborative environment with engineering teams across software and hardware disciplines.

Job Requirements

Required Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics with 5 years of experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in computer engineering, with a focus on building/testing components for computer systems
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with benchmarking tools, including PassMark and Geekbench
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in computer hardware and software interactions
  • Minimum 5 years of scripting and Linux experience.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree with 3 years of experience
  • Experience with Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and its applications
  • Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Python or Bash
  • Familiarity with industry-standard protocols and interfaces, such as PCIe, USB, and NVMe
  • Experience in troubleshooting system, hardware, and FW issues.
  • Experience with Environmental Qualification Testing
  • A seasoned, experienced professional with a highly proficient understanding of software engineering concepts, principles, and theories, and an expert at ing technical standards and methodologies to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways.
  • Capable of working on problems of diverse scope requiring extensive analysis of data and evaluation of a multitude of factors.
  • Demonstrates highly proficient judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Highly proficient knowledge of the software development process as well as software engineering concepts, principles, and theories.
  • Highly proficient knowledge of other related engineering and support disciplines.
  • Detailed and highly proficient knowledge of technology trends and champions new ideas, and product and process improvements.
  • Highly proficient knowledge of software tools supporting Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), version control, defect reporting, and scripting.
  • Ability to be creative, innovative, and responsible, and able to master highly proficient decision-making skills.
  • Highly proficient ability to handle significant responsibility, leadership, and accountability while executing very complex assignments.
  • Shows initiative on assignments and professionally executes projects with very little direction, or can provide direction and leadership to technical teams.
  • Exercises independent judgment and sometimes defines new procedures and practices to improve team and company performance.
