Job Description

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Report Writer / Data Analyst with strong expertise in Cognos and Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) to support enterprise-wide reporting needs across Finance, Manufacturing, Operations, and Supply Chain. This role will focus on designing, developing, and delivering complex, high-impact reports and dashboards using data from Deltek Costpoint and our MSSQL-based data warehouse, which includes legacy ERP system data.

The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of manufacturing environments and the ability to translate business requirements into accurate, actionable reports. This individual will collaborate directly with functional department leaders to gather requirements and deliver analytics that drive business decisions.

Location: Simi Valley, CA or San Leandro, CA

Pay Rate: $65-80 an hour 

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain advanced reports and dashboards using Cognos, with a primary focus on data sourced from Deltek Costpoint and the enterprise data warehouse (MSSQL).
• Meet with business stakeholders and department leads (Finance, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Procurement) to gather and document reporting requirements.
• Create reports that support inventory tracking, production scheduling, work orders, cost analysis, variance analysis, P&L, and other core manufacturing KPIs.
• Develop stored procedures, views, and ETL processes as needed to prepare or optimize datasets for reporting.
• Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across reports.
• Collaborate with the data warehouse team to integrate legacy ERP data with current systems for consolidated reporting.
• Support ad-hoc reporting needs for audits, compliance, or operational analysis.
• Conduct QA and user acceptance testing (UAT) on developed reports and dashboards.
• Train power users and department leaders on how to access and use reports and dashboards effectively.
• Proactively recommend improvements to reporting structures, data models, or visualization strategies.
• Assist in maintaining documentation of reporting solutions, business rules, and data sources.

Job Requirements

Required Skills / Qualifications:

• Requires expert-level knowledge of Cognos Analytics and enterprise reporting.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, SQL, and business intelligence principles.
• Minimum of 7 years of prior related experience in report development.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or Graduate Degree recommended
