Job Description
Summary Leadership position responsible for guiding educational quality and pedagogical practice across all programs serving children birth through age five. Lead professional development, mentor teaching staff, and ensure implementation of developmentally appropriate practices aligned with Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS). Support continuous quality improvement through coaching, curriculum development, and program assessment.
Duties Daily Operations Coordination - Oversee daily program operations and facility management
- Coordinate staff scheduling, coverage, and substitute arrangements
- Manage building safety, maintenance requests, and emergency procedures
- Ensure smooth transitions and communication between shifts
Classroom Support & Coverage - Maintain active teaching credentials and classroom coverage as needed
- Support teachers with classroom management and educational resources
- Conduct informal classroom observations and provide feedback
- Assist with child supervision during transitions and special events
Family & Communication Services - Handle day-to-day parent inquiries and concerns
- Support enrollment processes and tour coordination
- Manage family communication systems and updates
- Coordinate family events and engagement activities
Administrative Support - Assist with licensing compliance and documentation requirements
- Support record-keeping for attendance, incidents, and program data
- Coordinate with external vendors, services, and maintenance
- Provide backup administrative support for director and operations manager
Program Quality & Staff Support - Support staff professional development and training coordination
- Assist with policy implementation and procedure updates
- Monitor program quality standards and safety protocols
- Facilitate communication between administrative and teaching staff
Leadership Backup - Serve as acting supervisor in absence of director or operations manager
- Make operational decisions within established guidelines
- Handle urgent situations and escalate as appropriate
- Represent program professionally with families and community partners
Requirements Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience in early childhood settings
- Previous coaching or mentoring experience required
- Advanced knowledge of CT ELDS and DOTS
- Experience with various curriculum approaches
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles
- Excellence in written and verbal communication
- Experience with quality rating systems and accreditation
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of current early childhood research and trends

Schedule
- Full-time position following program calendar
- Flexibility to accommodate staff schedules 6:00am-6:30pm
