Peraton is developing the next generation of mission planning and command-and-control software for space communications programs. Our team is responsible for creating modern, resilient services and capabilities that will support the U.S. Government’s critical space communications infrastructure for the next decade and beyond.
As a Backend Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building a cutting-edge ground communications and data-transport platform for U.S. government satellites. You will design and develop core platform services that enable secure, scalable, and efficient satellite operations. In this role, you will contribute as an individual developer while supporting technical decisions to ensure platform excellence.

Required qualifications:
Extensive experience designing and developing Protected Key Management Architecture (PKMA) software, with a strong focus on secure backend systems.
Experience in Python, with hands-on experience building scalable backend services and APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI.
Proven experience working with modern infrastructure and tools, including PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform, to support cloud-native application development and deployment.
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of at least one major commercial cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including its native services for compute, storage, and security.
Strong background in backend architecture and development, with a focus on performance optimization, security hardening, and system reliability.

Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
